Malibu surfer Frankie Harrer broke a National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) record with her 31st win of the season at the NSSA Explorer in Huntington Beach Jan 14. With a few months left on the schedule, the 14-year-old local athlete, who is sponsored by Daphne’s California Greek restaurant and Billabong, could increase that number by season’s end.

Harrer is one of eight young surfers being personally mentored by pro surfer Kelly Slater as part of Team Daphne’s, created by restaurant chain Daphne’s California Greek. Another sponsor of Harrer’s, Billabong, presented her with a celebratory banner and has placed an ad in her honor in the April 2012 issue of Surfing Magazine.

Harrer also came in 5th at the recent North Shore Shop Pro Junior, where she competed with her Daphne’s California Greek teammate Meah Collins, along with Kulia Dougherty, Lani Dougherty and Tia Blanco.

Harrer is currently practicing for the International Surfing Association’s Jr. World Championships set to take place in Panama this April.
