New businesses bring fresh flavors, wellness, and style to Malibu

From a hometown sandwich shop and organic grocer to luxury aesthetics and BEAMS’ first U.S. concept store, new openings add to Malibu’s evolving business community
A native Malibuite’s sandwich shop, a yoga, an aesthetics and concierge wellness space, the first brick-and-mortar United States location for one of Japan’s most popular brands, and an organic grocer — all are new businesses and experiences in Malibu that have opened in the last few weeks.
The Sandwich Shop
Sara Jerabek, a native Malibuite, just opened The Sandwich Shop at 30150 Morningview Drive, a home first occupied by Sara’s grandparents, located across from Malibu Middle and High schools, just in time for the start of school!
There are a plethora of selections to choose from, and the enticing menu makes it difficult to choose just one! Options include the Zooma Tuna, which has a little kick as it includes red bell pepper, jalapenos, and Sri Racha mayo, or alternatively, fish lovers can choose El Pescador, featuring tuna salad with fresh herbed lemon mayo, pepperoncini, and sharp cheddar cheese. Meat eaters can enjoy Big Dume, a turkey and mild cheddar sandwich with shaved apple and fennel; and La Costa, a turkey, salami, and mozzarella sandwich featuring sun dried tomato and roasted red peppers. The establishment offers both a vegetarian and vegan La Costa sandwich, and The Pink Lady sandwich, which features burrata, white peaches, pistachios, mint, and a pomegranate glaze offers vegetarians another tasty option. Many of the sandwiches are served on Bubread, a popular item with many locals.
“I was so excited to bring the Torpedo back! It’s a sandwich we used to get from Pt. Pizza, and the owners were nice enough to give me the recipe so I could feature it on my menu!” Jerebak shared. “Having the Torpedo on the menu provides a bit of nostalgia for those of us who grew up here when I did.”
Of course, Jerebak includes the Groms and offers them the Makos and Little Dume sandwiches with turkey and various fixings, the Leo Carrillo, a tuna salad choice, and the Bluffs option with sunflower seed butter and organic jelly. There is, indeed, something for everyone!
One very impressed customer, Niki Grahame, sent Jerebak a complimentary remark after eating one of the sandwiches, saying, “Local, simple, delicious, and made with heart. The best sandwiches, amazing sandwich bowls, and the cutest little beach stop.” Grahame wrote, adding, “I am so proud of you for creating something so special: The Malibu we grew up loving ”
Located across from Malibu High School, Jerebak is looking forward to serving students. N2 Aesthetics Services
On Aug. 22, a group of city councilpersons, city staff, and members of the Malibu Pacific Palisades Chamber of Commerce gathered at N2 Aesthetics to celebrate the business opening with a well-attended ribbon-cutting ceremony. Attendees enjoyed touring the new Malibu clinic, which offers skincare products developed by the company to simplify beauty routines while providing maximum results, as well as other high-end skincare products, injectables, tirzepatide-glycine weight loss modalities overseen by a board-certified family medicine physician with expertise in medical weight management, and ultrasound treatments for fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and cellulite, laser services, and concierge wellness.
The “Hot Summer Nights” evening event was catered by Ollo, and attendees enjoyed their favorite heavy hor- d'oeuvres from that popular establishment, libations, a live band, giveaways, and visiting with local vendors who joined in the fun.
Malibuite Heather Alfano, who serves as a nurse at the new business, a role bolstered by her 18 years of experience as an ICU nurse at UCLA, shared her insights about N2 Aesthetics opening locally. “It feels so gratifying to expand the services we offer to Malibu and to help rebuild our beautiful community!” she said. “I hope the clinic is more than a place to receive treatments ... and that it becomes a place where people feel genuinely cared for and welcome!”

Taking America by storm starting in Malibu: BEAMS’ first U.S. concept shop
Widely anticipated by aficionados of BEAMS, a high-end luxury clothing and boutique products line from Japan, the company opened a weekend-only concept shop in Malibu on Aug. 7, with store officials stating that “the opening is intended to establish a new platform for cultural expression and to strengthen the company’s business foundation in North America.”
BEAMS marked its 50th anniversary in February and was founded in Harajuku, Tokyo. With approximately 165 stores across Japan and Asia, BEAMS’ statement announcing the new Malibu location states that since its inception, the company has opened a range of stores, “built around lifestyles from around the world, introducing brands and works from Japan and abroad across fashion, lifestyle goods, interiors, art, music and food,” and that the business’s “culture is woven by its communities of products, experiences and people is embraced by a broad range of generations wherever it goes.”
When one enters the new Malibu space, he can peruse a wide selection of everyday core essentials that the company states are, “thoughtfully designed and made to be worn season after season,” as well as some collaborative items on show, such as BEAMS’ first collaboration with Hoka, with company representatives noting that “BEAMS serves as a catalyst for creating new value through such collaborations.”

Hank’s Organic 'Organic at the Right Price'
Malibu has patiently waited for more than three years for the opening of Hank's Organic, a family-owned organic store and eatery that is open where PC Greens used to be. Hanks aims to provide fresh, affordable organic groceries and prepared hot and cold deli meals. The permitting processes, fire delays, and other construction-related issues held up the opening, but no one is more delighted than the store’s General Manager Miguel De Alba and his team of delightedemployees who are eager to meet new customers.
When one enters Hank's, he is impressed by the vast array of produce, hot bar items, coffees, and smoothies and especially delighted to see two features that are nowhere else in Malibu: a pineapple slicing machine and a fresh orange juice machine. Delicious juice and pineapple prepared right in front of you while you wait! Fantastic!
