With September just around the corner, Malibu’s youngest residents are back in school.
Julie Ellerton, The Malibu Times multimedia director, went around town and asked local kids this question:
“How does it feel to be back in school?”
Here are their responses.
Dominique Elwes—Malibu Middle School, sixth grade“I love being back at school because I just get to meet new friends and then that friendship will last forever.”
Roux Sanders—Webster Elementary School, third grade“I think it feels great; I’m so happy! It’s just like the best school ever, my class is perfect, everything is great. I love it!”
Stevie Clarke—Point Dume, fifth grade“Well, I’m not really a big fan of school that much. I guess it’s fine to learn, I don’t know. Favorite subject, maybe reading. I love recess, I think there should be more recess!”
Gilselle Riggs—Webster Elementary School, first grade“Good. They’re making like new roads and stuff to park the cars and I have new friends. My favorite part of school is playing cards.”
Thurston Cockrell—Webster Elementary School, fifth grade“It feels really good. I switched this year from Point Dume to Webster. I really like Webster. I think the kids are nice there, it’s very fun and it’s a big change … I like it. My favorite subject is going to be music because I’m going to be in a band and that’s going to be fun.”
