Lou Spirito, Megan Blake and their dogs have been nominated for Dog Writers Association of America awards.

Malibu locals Lou Spirito, Megan Blake and their dogs, Tanner and Super Smiley, respectively, have been nominated for Dog Writers Association of America (DWAA) awards. The association, founded in 1935, was created to encourage and support quality writing about dogs, including television and radio scripts, books, articles, blogs, and photography. The DWAA awards banquet will take place in New York City on Sunday, Feb. 15 (the night before the opening on the Westminster Dog Show) at Hotel Pennsylvania.

Blake and Super Smiley, co-hosts of “A Super Smiley Adventure” on Pet Life Radio, have been nominated for their script, which emphasizes the human/animal bond for the American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards. Spirito, author of “Gimme Shelter: A Damaged Pit Bull and an Angry Man and How They Saved Each Other,” and his dog Tanner’s nomination is for their online article in Woof Magazine, “Walking in a Winter Wonderland.”
