Malibu High basketball players honored

Members of the Malibu High School varsity girls basketball team were recognized at the Malibu High School Basketball Awards Banquet March 12.

Junior forward and co-captain Agaly De Jesus was named the team’s Most Valuable Player and was also selected to the First-Team All-Frontier League.

Freshman center Kendall Jordan was named to the All- Frontier League Second Team, the only freshman in the league to receive All-League team honors. Senior co-captain Nelly Alavez and freshman Nina Hungerland were named honorable mention All-League.

In addition, Alavez won MHS Defensive Player of the Year, and two other freshmen were honored. Sarah Joshi won Most Improved Player Award and Gianna Chaisson won the Coaches Award.

Other varsity letterwinners included Glenis Leslie, Alana Baer, Karen Sanchez and Ari Ross. Leslie had the season’s high point honor with 16 points against Grace Brethren.

The junior varsity team was also honored at the event. The JV girls won more games this year than any recent JV team, and at one point carried a three-game win streak. Ciara Collins-Parnell was junior varsity MVP. Ana Cervantes won JV Most Improved, and Jordan Michaelson won the JV Coaches Award.
