The City of Malibu has permitted three separate fireworks shows on two different days to take place during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
- Saturday, July 2, between Carbon Canyon and La Costa Beach
- Monday, July 4, Paradise Cove
- Monday, July 4, between Broad Beach and Malibu Colony
All professional fireworks shows are permitted to start after 9 p.m., but must finish before 10 p.m. Fireworks are lit off from barges off the coast.
Last November, city council passed an ordinance that restricted fireworks usage around the City of Malibu. In addition to the restriction of the sale and possession of fireworks in Malibu, the ordinance specifically outlined that detonating fireworks before sunset or after 10 p.m. is prohibited.
The ordinance came as a response to residents concerned with loud noises causing adverse effects on pets and small children. Pet owners are advised to bring pets indoors during displays.
