At the recent 53rd Hawaiian Billfish Tournament, Malibu resident Steve Spina caught a 684-pound Pacific blue marlin, the largest of the tournament. Spina competed as a member of the Malibu Marlin Club team, along with Stephen Chow and Sam Spinello.

Spina also caught the largest tuna at the tournament, reeling in a 161-pound ahi tuna. The Malibu team won the tuna division at the competition. Back in 2006, they were named the tournament champions.
