The Waves’ winning streak came to an end after a loss against 12th-ranked Texas Tech in the quarterfinal round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships this past weekend. Texas Tech came into the competition with a 1-0 advantage heading into singles, and continued picking up victories on courts one, four and five — eventually beating Pepperdine, 4-0.
The Waves, who were previously ranked third, dropped the doubles point earlier in the competition, and by the end of the day, fell on three singles courts.
Doubles partners, senior Christine Maddox and junior Mayar Sherif, had a successful run, defeating their opponents 6-4. But, after a tough match, junior and sophomore duo Laura Gulbe and Dzina Milovanovic fell 5-7 to the team.
The Waves head back to Malibu this week to challenge UCLA in a Feb. 17 match.
