A class of locals, including a group of Malibu High School students, recently went through Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training program to become certified to aid the community in emergency situations. CERT is an ongoing program in communities that is administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Department of Homeland Security and conducted by City of Malibu officials.Â
The program provides training in basic response skills, such as light search and rescue, fire safety, team organization and medical assistance. CERT training is an extension of support for communities that help responding professionals who may not immediately be available to help during emergency situations.Â
