Malibu High School juniors Kendall Jordan and Nina Hungerland were named co-MVPs at the MHS girls basketball awards banquet, which took place last Thursday night. Center Jordan and guard-forward Hungerland also received an honor for being named first team in the All-Frontier League. Junior guard Gianna Chaisson was named All-League second team.
The award for most improved player was shared by Alana Baer and Sarah Joshi. Baer and teammate Ana Cervantes were named honorable mention All-Frontier Player. Jordan, Hungerland, Joshi and Baer, along with Ari Ross, were named to the All-League Academic team with GPAs higher than 3.5.
The Sharks ended their successful season with a 15-11 record, 8-6 in league play, and advanced to the CIF playoffs. Every member on the varsity roster will return to play next season. The JV team had its best season ever, finishing with a 10-5 record. Becky Boerum, guard, was named JV MVP, Joie Marshall was chosen as defensive player of the year, Peyton Gaughen was awarded offensive player of the year, Mollie Armitage was the most improved player and Nara Pena received the coach’s award.
