Malibu artist Johanna Spinks will be featured in a new exhibit, “The Face of Ventura,” featuring 56 different portraits, at the Museum of Ventura County this Sunday.

The collection of portraits is the result of a nearly two-year journey for Spinks. She created the paintings in 56 single sittings, with no photos used.

“Each painted shorthand sketch was an attempt not only to document my sitter’s life story with my brush, but also to expose them to the relevant world of contemporary portraiture,” Spinks said in a statement.

The exhibit opens Aug. 26 at the Martin V. and Martha K. Smith Pavilion, Museum of Ventura County, 100 E Main St., in Ventura, at 2 p.m.
