This weekend, nine Malibu High School students will travel to Huntington Beach to compete in the 2011 Interscholastic High School and Middle School State Championship presented by the National Scholastic Surfing Association. There, they will meet up with the top 20 high school teams from throughout the Orange County and San Diego areas.

The MHS team is comprised of nine surfers: Andrew Jacobson, Dimitri Papavassiliou, Colton Sarlo, Duke Van Patten, Skylar Lawson and Chris Finck competing in the men’s short board division; Trevor Robbins in the long board division; and Moorea Dawn Maguire and Sara Toussieng in the women’s short board division.

The NSSA State Championships will serve as the qualifier for teams to be invited to the 2011 NSSA National Interscholastic Championships, which will take place June 17-18 at Salt Creek in Dana Point. The probability of seeing not only one, but also possibly four or five of these talented surfers make it to the state finals is highly likely. Stay tuned next week for the results.
