Immigration authorities detained 10 suspected illegal immigrants in the Malibu area at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to The Associated Press. Federal immigration spokeswoman Virginia Kice told the AP two of the immigrants were injured while coming ashore and were hospitalized. One woman suffered a broken nose and another man broke his leg. According to the report, the U.S. Coast Guard searched for the boat but did not find it.
Kice told the AP that drug and human traffickers have been using small boats to ferry immigrants into Orange and Los Angeles counties recently. An empty boat was found off the coast of Ventura County in March.
