Malibu resident Alex Colby is set to compete in the 2013 U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association Junior Championships in Alyeska, Alaska, from March 19-23. The 15-year-old local qualified to represent the Far West Division based on the results of competitions that took place in Mammoth, Lake Tahoe and Snow Summit. The team is made up of the top skiers from California, Nevada and Oregon, who will be competing in the Alpine skiing disciplines of slalom, giant slalom and super giant slalom.
Colby has been on the Mammoth Mountain Ski Team since he was seven years old. He was recently honored with the A Team Award from the team’s coaches for achieving significant results in competitions. Colby is also on Mammoth’s Academic Elite Team, which consists of athletes who excel in the classroom and on the slopes.
