Malibu resident Marion Alice McGowan died Feb. 25 of complication from a stroke. She was 92.
McGowan was born in Los Angeles on Sept. 22, 1917 to Hulbert Lynch and Earlean Boxell Lynch, and grew up in Playa del Rey and Venice, Calif. In her youth, she excelled in all sports while attending Venice High School. In 1939, she married Hugh McGowan and resided in Santa Monica where her son Dennis was born. In 1967 she relocated to Malibu, where she remained until her death.
Hugh preceded her in death in 1970. The General Telephone Co. (now Verizon) employed Marion in the Data Services Organization until she retired in 1988. She enjoyed oil painting and living near the ocean.
Marion is survived by her son Dennis (Aurora); grandchildren Sean McGowan of Austin, Texas and Paige Flahaven (Ryan); great grandchildren Mckenna and Owen Flahaven; sister Verna Simpson (Robert); nieces Sharon White (Gary) and Robin of North Carolina; and Debbie Mark of Maui, as well as many grand nephews and nieces.
