Alissa Myer, West Malibu Junior Miss 2011, and Sara Moore, East Malibu Junior Miss 2011, were selected at Malibu High School on April 28 by a panel of five judges. The eleventh grade candidates will represent Malibu at the state competition in August prior to the America Junior Miss program early next year.

The AJM Scholarships were awarded based on five criteria. An interview was conducted, during which each candidate discussed her sense of values, concern for world issues and ability in human relations. A separate panel of qualified educators reviewed and evaluated transcripts considering grades, coursework, scholastic test scores and college entrance exams. On stage at Malibu High, the six candidates were judged on their talent, self-expression and physical fitness.

For the past four years the Malibu Optimist Club has sponsored an AJM candidate and has offered a $500 scholarship. Many other sponsors have contributed to supporting a second junior miss and scholarship for the last two years.

The 2011 AJM Scholarship program also recognized Sophie Galate with a scholarship for the fitness portion of the program. Malibu’s 2011 MJM recipients succeed Erica Posey and Jenna Sherry, MJM 2010; Chelsea Cozen, MJM 2009; and Raquel Ravaglioli, MJM 2008.
