On Monday, Oct. 12, Malibu City Council voted to finally begin the process of separating the Malibu school district from Santa Monica
On Wednesday, Oct. 28, Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Ben Drati wrote a letter to Malibu City Manager Reva Feldman about the City of Malibu’s recent move to formally pursue a separation from the Santa Monica-based school district. In the letter, Drati stated that, “Equity and fairness appear to have disappeared from the formula,” seemingly alleging selfishness on the part of Malibu. In response, both Feldman and SMMUSD Board Member Craig Foster wrote letters defending the move. Foster called Drati’s letter “equal parts deeply offensive, wildly hypocritical and completely inappropriate.”
