The Malibu High School varsity baseball team rode an explosive offense to a decisive 10-6 victory Friday afternoon over visitors Bishop Union in the first round of the CIF playoffs at Malibu High.

Malibu moves on to the second round, where they will face Calvary Chapel of Downey on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.

It didn’t take long for the Sharks’ bats to come alive. After a scoreless first inning, Malibu put two runs on the board. The Sharks carried a 2-1 lead into the fourth, when things really took off.

The well-drilled unit reeled off six runs on just four hits, putting the visiting Broncos in an 8-1 hole that would prove insurmountable. The teams traded two-run fifth innings to make it 10-3 heading into the sixth. The three runs posted by the visitors in the final inning were too little, too late as the Sharks finished with a 10-6 victory.
