We are shocked to learn that the west end of the Malibu Lagoon State Park is scheduled to have a renovation that will eliminate the walk bridge path to the beach and allow the bulldozing and complete destruction of the beautiful established ecosystem that exists now. We think a more modest restoration retaining the existing beach access, which allows us a short and direct path to the beach and preserves the existing ecosystem is a more appropriate proposal. We also feel the use of hand labor instead of bulldozers to replace the invasive non-native plant life is less destructive to the ecosystem.
As we just learned that the California Coastal Commission meeting to approve this renovation is scheduled for August 12, I encourage anyone and everyone that cares for the lagoon to make your voice heard and request that this meeting be postponed so we can organize a timely response to this proposal. Additionally, please request that the hearing be scheduled for one held in Southern California so we can attend and have our opinion heard. Please contact the commission through their website: www.coastal.ca.gov
