Malibu native Austin Dyne took third place last Sunday at the Utah Grand Prix in his second race on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. The 20-year-old Dyne, a Malibu High grad, led for 23 of the race’s 50 laps after starting ninth. A late race yellow flag closed up the field and eventual winner Greg Pursley passed Dyne for the win.
Dyne races for William Rast/Sunrise Racing Ford. He is currently in eleventh place in the K&N Pro Series West Championship and has secured second place in the Sunoco Rookie Award race after competing in two of the series’ three races in 2012. Following NASCAR guidelines, as a series rookie Austin wasn’t eligible to race at the high speed Phoenix season opener.
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series is made up of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and the K&N Pro Series West. This division represents NASCAR’s top regional touring series, where competitors refine their skills before making the jump to one of NASCAR’s three national series.
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West will race next in the Pick-N-Pull 150 at Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway on Sat., May 5.
