I would like to clarify the focus of our opposition to a traffic signal as was reported in the March 2 article, “Debates resume over PCH safety.” Safety is often touted as the reason for a traffic signal at Corral Canyon Road and PCH. However, the official study determined that the only warrant for a signal was the peak hour delay exiting Corral; no safety warrants were met!
Since traffic signals often reduce overall intersection safety, and since drivers exiting Corral are almost certain to wait at a red light, a signal will quite likely lead to more accidents and longer delays, a lose-lose situation!
City of Malibu, I say prove that a signal is warranted for safety, and prove that delays exiting Corral will not increase overall before imposing yet another intrusive control device into our lives!
