The Malibu High School girls varsity basketball team played in the Annual Avalon Holiday Tournament in Catalina recently. They played teams from San Pasqual, Ocean View and Avalon high schools. The Sharks won only one out of four games. MHS defeated the host Avalon Lancers 52-32, with co-captain and guard Danielle Bush scoring 18 points and freshman guard Helena Vazelakis scoring 10.

In a second match-up with Avalon, Bush was again named high-scorer with 19 points. But the Lancers defeated the Sharks 50-38. In the final game of the tournament, freshman twins Marie and Helena Vazelakis along with guard Hannah Robinson led the scoring for Malibu, but it was not enough to defeat the Ocean View Seahawks.

Throughout the tournament, MHS center Sierra Zontelli led the Sharks in rebounding throughout all four games. Bush was again rewarded for her play with All-tournament honors for her second tournament in a row.
