Bernard Jay Pick died on June 15 at the age of 56.

Pick, a longtime Malibu resident, was born in Los Angeles on Oct. 27, 1948, to Mala and Saul. He grew up in Brentwood and graduated from Stanford University.

After graduating from USC Law School, Pick worked as an assistant district attorney before going into private practice for several years. Over the course of his life, he pursued a variety of passions. In addition to being a former owner of Sunset-Gower Studios in Hollywood, he was a trained actor, an accomplished pilot and held a black belt in Tang Soo Do. A karate instructor, Pick built the Malibu Karate Association.

For years, Pick volunteered as a pilot for Angel Flight. Most recently, he worked as a television producer.

Pick is survived by his wife of 23 years, Stephanie, son Matthew, daughter Marisa and her husband Steve, brother Mark and stepmother Kären.

A funeral took place on June 17 at Eden Memorial Park in Mission Hills. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or the charity of your choice.
