Twenty high school students from the combined youth group for Malibu United Methodist and St. Aiden’s Church took an outreach trip to the Susanville Rancheria in Northern California recently as a part of the Sierra Service Project.
The students painted houses, cleaned city streets and built wheelchair ramps totaling 40 hours of community service. They also enjoyed going on hikes, swimming in lakes and visiting with youth groups from Palos Verdes and San Luis Obispo churches.
The area is populated by descendants of Maidu, Pit River, Paiute and Washoe Native Americans.
Youth leader Victor Eichhorn is hosting a Sierra Service Project informational session with members of the MUMC youth group Sept. 18 at Malibu United Methodist Church, 30128 Morning View Dr., at 10:30 a.m. More information can be obtained by calling 310.457.4505.
