Malibu Times photographer Julie Ellerton asks local residents, what’s your opinion on Measure R?
“I’m for Measure R, it will be good for the community. I think it will give the residents of Malibu a choice, whether they want development or no development on a certain piece of property.”
“I’m confused about Measure R. When I first received a mailing I thought, ‘This is fantastic, we’re going to stop all these big chain stores from coming into Malibu,’ but the more I hear, it seems like there’s some messiness between the size of the chain stores that are coming in and whether or not the chains are international or national, and now it’s gotten really blurry in my head as to how I should vote.”
“Measure R, definitely no. It is bypassing the democratic process.”
“I’m for ‘Yes on R’ after hearing rational debate triumph over baseless negativity.”
“My opinion of the R initiative is that it is poorly written. From the real smart people I’ve spoken to who told me it is unconstitutional, these are my attorneys and my business associates who I highly respect. I’m busy serving tacos but I do pay attention to Malibu and what happens here, and it needs to be written properly.”
