Kela Joy Sachs, daughter of two longtime Malibu residents—Greg and Debbie Sachs—is set to graduate from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., with a bachelor of arts degree in music, with a concentration in ethnomusicology, environmental music, and music ontology and performance. As a member of the honor society Phi Beta Kappa, Kela will graduate with notable academic achievement.
Kela grew up in Malibu and participated in many school theatrical and choral productions in high school. She continued performing in college—among her accomplishments, Kela performed for the Sultan of Yogyakarta (from a monarchy based in Java, Indonesia) as part of Wesleyan’s Advanced Javanese Gamelan ensemble. She also performed as Juliet in a “Romeo and Juliet” rendition put on during the Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Conn.
After graduation, Kela will join Cape Harmony, a professional women’s a capella group, on tour.
Kela’s grandmother, Lonnie Gordon, shared well wishes in an email: “May this be the start to a long life of continued success in the arts and beyond!”
