A 27-year-old Malibu resident died as the result of a powered paraglider accident in eastern Ventura County on Nov. 20. Reports have identified the victim as Brent Butzke, an extreme sports filmmaker.
Last Tuesday, just before 3 p.m., the victim was flying his paraglider around the Santa Clara River and Powell Road near Piru, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. A witness working nearby saw the paraglider fall to the ground and called 911. Ventura County Fire paramedics and sheriff’s deputies responded and began treating the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene soon after.
