The board of directors for nonprofit group Heal the Bay has selected longtime staff member Alix Hobbs as new president and chief executive officer.
Hobbs previously served as chief operating officer and has held various positions of leadership in her 16-year history with the group, including associate director, and programs and education director.
Heal the Bay is a nonprofit based in Santa Monica, devoted to preserving the health and safety of Southern California’s oceans and beaches. Along with beach and neighborhood cleanups, the group operates the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium and issues weekly beach quality grades to more than 500 Southern California beaches. The nonprofit has approximately 15,000 members and operates on a $4 million budget.
Former Heal the Bay president Ruskin Hartley stepped down from his position to spend more time with family in Northern California.
