The Boys Under 10 soccer team Malibu United won the Inaugural Section 10 Cup in Camarillo this past weekend in thrilling fashion. After tying Camarillo 5-5 in their opener, they trounced their other opponents 4-0 and 8-0 in pool play. In the championship game, Malibu United got a rematch against Camarillo who jumped out to a 2-0 lead. After strong words of encouragement from their coach at halftime, Malibu came out invigorated and dominated the second half, scoring 3 straight goals to seal the victory and hoist the Section 10 Cup. Of nine total players, seven scored in the tournament. The team was led by Kenny Averna’s seven goals, Jose Hernandez’s four goals, and Cavan Leonardo and Giancarlo Zappala scoring three each. This team played five post-season tournaments since November, was a finalist in all but one tournament and was crowned champion in three of the tournaments. They look forward to resuming their winning ways this Fall when the AYSO season begins.
