Present
In the absence of
Will
Left with only
Desire
I desire only the
Rain.
Not a tough muscled
Storm,
But a steady
Soft-spoken
Even warm,
Drizzle
Running gently down
My bedroom
Windows.
Constant
Steady
Rhythmic, yet,
Lyrical.
Overpowered,
Poor Desire,
Enfeebled
By so great a Love, no, by
Loves inconstant.
Love
Given, but not
Expanded
Then,
Withdrawn, retracted,
Hidden, and finally
Contracted.
And not by
Me,
No, not by me.
But,
If a true Love came,
I
Mean, if the Rains
Came
Steady, Soulful, quietly
Verbal,
I mean,
Aural,
Drip
Drip Drip
Like Heaven’s blood drops or
Milk
My desire
Would be
Transfused, transformed,
Become
A radiant, reflective
Transubstantiated,
Soft-spoken
I.
