At this semester’s first weekly chapel service in the Firestone Fieldhouse at Pepperdine University, students, faculty, and staff gave a standing ovation to U.S. Olympic players and coaches.
Those in attendance included Kevin Barnett, a two-time Olympian and former Pepperdine All American who did television commentary for this year’s games; Sean Rooney, who led Pepperdine to the 2005 national championship in men’s volleyball and was a member of this year’s gold medal winning US team; Pepperdine men’s volleyball head coach Marv Dunphy, who was on the coaching staff for Team USA; and Terry Schroeder, Pepperdine’s men’s water polo coach, who led the American team to the silver medal, the first medal for men’s water polo in 20 years.
