Pepperdine University has appointed Ryan Weisenberg as head coach of the women’s basketball team. He has more than 15 years of coaching experience, and joined the Waves staff as an assistant for the 2012-2013 season, according to a release from the university. Weisenberg is taking over after former coach Julie Rousseau, who coached the team for nine seasons, resigned at the beginning of April.
“Ryan Weisenberg is a great fit as our new women’s basketball head coach,” Pepperdine Director of Athletics Dr. Steve Potts said in a statement. “His varied experiences in basketball at the highest level have prepared him for this challenge and we look forward to a bright future for Pepperdine women’s basketball.”
Weisenberg is the sixth head coach in the 38-year history of the basketball program. Before coming to Pepperdine, he coached professional basketball in New Zealand and worked for the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Sparks, among other administrative positions in basketball.
