The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District made it clear last night they are going for as much of the gusto as they could grab in a proposed parcel tax measure slated for this November’s ballot. The only thing left to be decided is the amount.
The majority of Parcel Tax Committee members are leaning toward a $300 per parcel figure, saying $200 would dig them out of a hole, but the higher amount would be far more marketable.
There are 32,413 parcels in Santa Monica and Malibu.
The $300 would result in a total of $9.6 million for the school district. This will help to make up for an anticipated deficit of $2.9 million this year, and $5.5 million the year following. If passed, the tax would go into effect in fiscal year
