A festive capacity audience witnessed Scott Doerner and Julie Barrier defeat Vassil Pertchinkov and Anu Anamika at the eighth annual Guido’s Mixed Doubles championship Aug. 1 at the Malibu Racquet Club. The score was 6-1, 7-6, Anu/Pertchinkov were up a break 5-4 to take the second set before falling in the tie-breaker.
In the B Division, Ken Mitchell/Katie Boulaev won a tight victory over Sam Seelig/Ellen Margolin 6-4, 7-5. Barrier has won the tournament with different partners including the first tournament with Malibu High School tennis coach Bruce Young. The popular event is sponsored by Guido’s Restaurant and hosted by the Malibu Racquet Club.
