Need questionable

In response to George Mathy’s letter, “Another view of LNG,” I think precisely because natural gas is such a “clean and nonpolluting substance” it is doubly unethical to squander this resource in wasteful and polluting processing. We need to learn from past mistakes and not repeat wasteful and polluting behavior (when we know better), expecting different results. We need to conserve nature’s resources, and clean pollution at its source.

This issue might be moot regarding BP Billiton’s Cabrillo Port project, since San Diego- based Sempra Energy Co.’s Costa Azul plant, just north of Ensenada, “aided by political tailwinds and less red tape is already half built, and might obviate the need for others or might mean only one more is needed on the West Coast.” From L.A. Times article, “Big Baja Natural Gas Plant May Cool Rival’s Chances,” Monday, Oct. 9, California Section. “Up to half the natural gas will be used in Baja California and the rest will move North into the U.S. Southwest.” How convenient! One wonders at what cost to the environment.
