Former Malibu resident Alex Soteras died Nov. 24 at the age of 51.
Soteras grew up in West Malibu and attended Juan Cabrillo Elementary School, Malibu Park Junior High and Pepperdine University. He also owned Soteras Mortgage.
Soteras served as the president of the Agoura/Oak Park/Calabasas Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce for four years until 2004 and more recently served as the chamber’s CEO. He was also the former director of the United Chambers of Commerce of the San Fernando Valley.
Soteras served as a corporate board member of the Southeast Ventura County YMCA and was a Pepperdine University board member.
In June 2008, Soteras was appointed to the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. He also served as a member of the Los Angeles County Water Appeals Board.
Soteras was found dead in his Calabasas home. His sister, Nicole Soteras told the Ventura County Star that he suffered cardiac arrest.
Soteras was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Soteras, a former columnist for The Malibu Times, who died in 2006.
