Longtime Malibu resident Jerry Lee Cibilich died June 24 after a long battle with cancer. He was 45.
Cibilich was born Feb. 22, 1957 in San Jose, Calif. He graduated from Del Mar High School before earning a degree in fine art at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Cibilich’s adult life was divided between his careers as an artist in Italy and as a lifeguard for the California State Parks. His most recent assignment with the state parks was as the coordinator of the Junior Lifeguard Program at Leo Carrillo State Park.
Cibilich’s interests included art, science, politics, surfing, skin diving, gardening, cooking and oenology, among others. He enjoyed sharing his passion for his hobbies with his friends and colleagues and frequently cooked meals for them using produce from his organic garden.
Cibilich is survived by his wife Elisabetta, his father Cib and his sister Debra.
A memorial service will take place the morning of Aug. 7 at San Clemente State Park in San Clemente, Calif. Donations can be made in Cibilich’s name to www.democracynow.org.
