Harvey Monroe Leipzig was born in New York City on May 28, 1925, and passed away on Sept. 14. 

Harvey Monroe Leipzig was born in New York City on May 28, 1925, and passed away on Sept. 14. Harvey attended the Hanover Academy in N.H., and then served in the United States Navy in Pearl Harbor during World War II. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated from the Wharton School.

Harvey was a successful businessman. He started a manufacturing business and transformed this into a chain of retail stores and real estate ventures. He retired to Malibu in 1976, where “he loved the ocean, the nature and the tranquility,” a loved one said. 

Harvey was passionate about sports, including tennis, skiing, swimming and anything involving the water. He was very intellectual and was always involved with life-long learning and reading. He was a longtime member of Temple Judea and the Malibu Jewish Center & Synagogue and was actively involved in philanthropy. 

Harvey is survived by wife, Elinor, of 57 years; children Julie Leipzig, Susan Leipzig and Dr. James Leipzig; daughter-in-law Alice; and grandchildren, Haley, Jordan and Brandon.

Donations may be made to the Braille Institute of Santa Barbara, the Malibu Jewish Center & Synagogue or the Jewish Home for the Aging.
