Malibu High School Theatre Director Jodi Plaia and her summer Theatre Lab students will present Robert Harling’s comedy “Steel Magnolias” on Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Malibu Stage Co., which is located at 29243 Pacific Coast Highway.

“Steel Magnolias” is about life, love and bad hair days in rural Chinquapin, La., where the regulars gather at Truvy’s beauty parlor to celebrate, commiserate, gossip, and bicker. There is more going on at Truvy’s than just a wash-and-set. Harling’s play is both funny and touching as he celebrates the indomitable spirit of these women who face life’s passages, both joyful and tragic. At Truvy’s salon, “Sometimes laughter is a matter of life and death”.

Tickets are $15, and can be purchased at the door. For more information, call the Theatre Lab at 310.908.0490.
