Malibu favorite and legendary actor Dick Van Dyke was unharmed after being pulled from his burning sports car Monday on the 101 freeway in Calabasas.

Around 2 p.m., Van Dyke’s car started smoking near the Calabasas Parkway exit just after he had picked the car up from the mechanic’s shop. He said the car caught fire after he pulled over to call a tow truck for assistance.

“There happened to be a fireman going by who thought I was injured and he pulled over and pulled me out,” Van Dyke told The Malibu Times.

Van Dyke, who was riding alone, said the fire may have been caused by some kind of electrical circuit, but was not certain. He also said the car fire saved him from a dreaded trip.

“I was on my way to the dentist, so I wasn’t too disappointed,” he said.

Van Dyke’s wife Arlene posted a Vine video of the aftermath here.
