On July 24, the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) closed escrow on a 703-acre area of coastal habitat. The acquisition is one of the largest made in the coastal Santa Monica Mountains in years.
The land, which was purchased from film director James Cameron, is located in Malibu’s Puerco Canyon. It will be used for both recreation and preservation of critical habitat that supports native plants and wildlife in the area.
The contribution is part of a $12 million fund to purchase the land, including $4.5 million from the Wildlife Conservation Board and $1.5 million by the State Coastal Conservancy.
