Caltrans will be starting a year-long slope stabilization project in early July 2014.

The area along southbound Pacific Coast Highway between Via Escondido and Sea Vista Drive near the Malibu Cove Colony is estimated to be under construction until August 2015.

According to Caltrans, engineers and geologists have observed slope failure and roadway movement in the area of construction due to storm damage on the highway pavement and nearby slopes.

During this year-long project, construction crews will work behind concrete barriers in order to prevent any lanes from being reduced. The crews will temporarily shift the highway lanes to accommodate for construction activities.

In order to stabilize the slope, several micropiles and tiebacks will be installed and anchored to the bedrock beneath the highway as a deep foundation for the new road changes.
