First place Pepperdine lost two of three to the second place Loyola Marymount Lions after winning six of their last eight games coming in.

Coming off a huge win against Cal Poly, the Waves looked primed for a great weekend against Loyala Marymount. They put up a great fight in the first two games but fell 3-2 and 3-1. The offense broke out for the third and final game of the series as 16 runs crossed the plate for Pepperdine in a 16-3 victory.

Despite losing two of three, the Waves still remain atop the West Coast Conference with eight games left in the regular season.

Nationally, Pepperdine went into last weekend ranked 17 but fell to 22 after losing three of their last four.

With the end of the season drawing near, Pepperdine has their work cut off for them with ranked opponents such as Cal Poly and San Diego on the horizon. In order for the Waves to stay in first, they have to continue playing the way they have been playing all year.

The Waves host second place San Diego for a three game series starting Friday at 3p.m., which could quite possibly decide the WCC division winner.
