Local sheriff’s officials will be conducting DUI checkpoints on Friday, Aug. 16 and Fri., Aug. 30 as a part of the sheriff’s department’s “End of Summer DUI Crackdown.”
Both checkpoints will take place within the city limits of Malibu between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. Malibu/ Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station officials will be checking drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment, as well as making sure drivers are properly licensed.
Law enforcement agencies throughout California will be stepping up DUI enforcement from Aug. 16 to Sept. 2, or the end of the summer season through Labor Day, according to a release from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station. There will be an increased law enforcement presence out on the road throughout the crackdown period, in addition to increased DUI checkpoints.
“The end of summer and Labor Day weekend is traditionally a time to have fun,” Sgt. Philip Brooks said. “Don’t let it turn into a time of tragedy or jail visit by driving impaired by alcohol or drugs. We will be out looking for those making that unwise and dangerous choice.”
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the California Highway Patrol, Avoid DUI Task Forces and more than 115 police departments across the state are joining forces for the end of summer crackdown.
Funding for the Malibu checkpoints is provided by the city of Malibu through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
