Two small earthquakes hit Malibu this weekend approximately six hours apart. A magnitude 3.0 earthquake shook Malibu Friday evening at 7:15 p.m., followed by a second 3.0 earthquake at 2:53 a.m. Saturday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. 54 people reported feeling the first earthquake from its epicenter, just three miles outside of Malibu. The second earthquake occurred approximately 32 miles southwest of Malibu. Geophysicist Shengzao Chen said earthquakes of this magnitude are typically shallow in intensity and generally do not cause major damage. There have been no reported injuries or damages in Malibu as a result of the earthquakes.
