Zachary Bornstein

Twelve-year-old Zachary Bornstein of Malibu received All-American honors at last month’s USATF National Championships in Lisle, Ill. by finishing fourth in the pentathlon. The pentathlon combines point totals in five different events-the 80-meter hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot put and 1,500-meter run.

At the USATF Junior Olympics, which took place on July 25, Bornstein anchored his 4 x 800-meter relay team to a Bronze medal. To compete at the USATF Junior Olympics and National Championships, athletes must advance from qualifying races and meet qualifying standard times.

In December, Bornstein’s cross country team won the AAU National Championships in Orlando, Florida

Bornstein competes in track and field and cross country for the Valley United Striders and Oaks Christian Middle School. He will enter the seventh-grade at Oaks Christian this fall, and will also play tackle football for the Westlake Braves.
