Tenth-generation Californian and fifth-generation Malibuite Christina Dunlap will attend USC’s School of Cinematic Art in the fall, and plans to pursue a degree in film.
Dunlap was born and raised in Malibu. She is the oldest daughter of Rick Dunlap, a local Realtor at Coldwell Banker, and Stephanie Gibbs Dunlap. Dunlap attended Our Lady of Malibu School, and graduated from Malibu High School in 2005. She continued her education at Santa Monica College. Dunlap’s sister Tiare Dunlap, is a junior at Malibu High School.
Dunlap is a descendent from the Lugo family. The Lugo family has been in California since 1779. Don Antonio Marie Lugo was a Spanish soldier sent to California with the Padres to defend the Missions as they were being built. Dunlap’s great-great-great paternal grandfather was William Joseph Brodrick, who helped to found Los Angeles’ first Fire Department and public library. He owned a narrow gauge trolley line in Downtown Los Angeles. He also owned the first fire insurance company. The Brodrick/Dunlap Family built the first home on Carbon Beach in 1928. It still stands today.
