Former Malibu resident Douglas Daniel Albert Naylor, 70, passed away on Nov. 9, hours after he was struck by a car while crossing Pacific Coast Highway near Big Rock in Malibu.
Naylor was born on March 30, 1944 in Keswick, Iowa. After the death of his mother, the family moved to their Uncle Tiny’s ranch, Naylor & Son’s, in Riverside when he was nine. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and served on the aircraft carrier Yorktown in the Pacific during the Vietnam War until he was 21. He attended USC and CSUN, and graduated from CSUN with a bachelor’s degree in business.
While attending school, he lived in Brentwood, and that is when he met his wife, Sandy MacCallum. They were married on Sept. 28, 1974. They moved to Malibu in 1975, and lived on Carbon Beach until moving to Corral Canyon in 1978, where they had all three of their children: Daniel, Heather and Alexandra.
The family moved to Calabasas in 1997 and then to Menlo Park in 1999. Naylor and MacCallum later divorced in 2004, but remained good friends. He moved back in 2008 and lived north of Malibu in Port Hueneme.
Naylor worked as a stockbroker for 30 years and, later in life, became a loan broker and real estate agent.
“He had many hobbies,” a loved one shared. “He loved sailing, rebuilding classic cars and built three houses up in Corral Canyon as his family grew over the years. He was a wealth of knowledge people will miss. The most important part of his life was his family and friends and he was always there for anyone who needed him.”
Naylor is survived by ex-wife, Sandy; son, Daniel; daughters, Heather and Alexandra; granddaughter, Athena; siblings, Daneta, Diane, David and Derry; cousins, Biff, Cal, Chet, Greg, Jeff, Mary and Loydel; and girlfriend, Meryl.
A service will take place on Sunday, Nov. 23, at noon at 8359 Hollywood Blvd.
