The City of Malibu is scheduled to appear before the California Coastal Commission on Thurs., Feb. 12, in the hopes of amending the city’s land use plan (LUP) so that construction can move forward on five blufftop homes in central Malibu — otherwise known as the Crummer Project.

The city is asking the CCC to approve language in the LUP that designates the property mixed residential and recreational use. As currently written, the property is designated for commercial and visitor-serving use.

The Crummer Project seeks to build five mansions averaging 11,028 square feet on a 24-acre site adjacent to Bluffs Park. Height on the homes ranges from 24 to 28 feet. Developer Robert Gold has also agreed to donate $2 million to the state, $1 million to the City of Malibu and 1.74 acres to the city for a new recreational site.

The hearing will take place at the Commission’s meeting in Pismo Beach next week. To read the full staff report, visit http://www.coastal.ca.gov/mtgcurr.html.
