Letter: A Look at John McCain

“Praising John McCain” For whom was this week-long extravaganza anyway? Certainly not the taxpayers who so generously (not so willingly) picked up the tab. Many have claimed that John McCain served his country with honor and distinction and, to some extent, I would agree.

But, let’s compare apples to apples:

John McCain was a Navy pilot … The Navy trained many pilots.

John McCain was shot down and captured by the enemy … Many pilots were shot down and captured. In fact, John McCain was fortunate to have survived because he went down over water. Others weren’t so lucky.

John McCain was held in a POW camp for years … Many U.S. soldiers were held in captivity for the same and even longer periods.

John McCain was hailed as a hero … But 58,000 men/women didn’t come home. What about their extravagant funerals? They were the “real” heroes.

So, where’s the distinction?

Serving as a senator (establishment Republican), John McCain really wasn’t sure what side of the aisle he was on. Let’s not forget the amnesty bill he co-authored with Dem. Ted Kennedy.

Truth is, John McCain wasn’t quite as patriotic or honorable as he would have everyone believe.

YouTube “John McCain exposed by Vietnam Vets and POW’s” and hear McCain sing like a canary to the VCs about critical security information.

However you feel or whatever your opinions were of John McCain, you may have been under the impression that his on-and-on-and-on funeral event was more about the attendees and political grandstanding than it was about him—and you’d be right. Left up to John McCain, I’m sure he never would have wanted it that way.
